Plans are afoot for Buckland Park, on the western side of Port Wakefield Road opposite Virginia. Walker Corporation is planning 12,000 new house lots, suitable for a range of housing types, including family houses, town houses and villas to be built over 25 years. The Buckland Park master plan proposes land for schools, shopping centres, open space and businesses to support the new community.

Walker is aware of the challenges involved in planning for a new community at Buckland Park. 14 Adelaide based consultants have carried out environmental investigations into a range of potential issues, including flooding from the Gawler River and supplying water to the new house sites. Buckland Park’s master plan includes large parks to channel and slow flood water from the Gawler River, protecting new housing. New water mains are planned to bring high quality and recycled water to Buckland Park.

A new intersection onto Port Wakefield Road at Angle Vale Road will be provided to cater for increased traffic.

Walker hopes Buckland Park will contribute houses, jobs and opportunities to South Australia, and northern Adelaide.

Stage 1 of Buckland Park is planned to have 616 new house lots, and a neighbourhood centre, which is proposed to open when the first residents arrive. The neighbourhood centre will include a small supermarket and specialty 6 shops for cafes, doctors or dentists, a sales and display centre and a community space for a community worker. A community bus will be provided to connect new residents to public transport, schools and services.

Assessment Process:

The State Government asked Walker Corporation to prepare an Environmental Impact Statement (EIS) to explain the proposal, its possible impacts and how those impacts will be managed. The EIS was submitted to the SA Government, and released for public exhibition. The exhibition ended on 15th June 2009.

After consideration of the EIS and community feedback, the Governor has decided Buckland Park is to proceed.
